What does fire-rated partition actually mean?

A fire-resistance rating belongs to a tested wall assembly. The required rating should come from the consultant specification, wall-type schedule, approved system reference or other project documentation. Contractors should not apply a generic 1-hour or 2-hour claim to a wall simply because fire-rated boards are used.
